DD5 - Make Your Own Embellishments

It's another hot Saturday here, but we're celebrating Christmas in July at DOUBLE DELIGHT this week! Designed2Delight is hosting the Make Your Own Embellishments Blog Extravaganza event for the next 2 weeks at CDAC, and you can go pick up a delightful new freebie there as well as see 9 different tutorials for making your own embellies.... so be sure to stop over at the D2D forum!

After seeing all the fabby tutorials over there, I thought I'd give you all another opportunity to try them yourselves, so that is my challenge at Double Delight... in addition to using this week's free digi, "Heartfelt Wishes" of course! Also, we have a winner!! Hop on over to see who it is!

I followed Kathy's chipboard embellishments tutorial to make my snowflakes.
I used a cereal box, snowflake Nestabilities, glitter and styrofoam balls (2 rubbed together for the white fluffy stuff--looks just like snow huh?).

Also, there's a new freebie opportunity at CDAC for getting 200 members at the D2D forum!! If you haven't signed up yet, what are you waiting for? Follow me to the freebies!!

Other Challenges I'm entering this into are:

LLWWC49 - Shaker Cards

Welcome back to another LaLa Weekly Wednesday Challenge. This week's hostess is sweet Maureen who is challenging us to make Shaker Cards and we'd love to have you come play along!! There's a great tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers by Beate and you can use anything small to fill your shaker; glitter, micro beads, mini buttons, confetti, etc. I used brown glitter for the sunflower and popped up Sunflower Rosie... isn't she cute? Her braids remind me of Pippi Longstocking... love that movie. Here's a pic of the card standing up with the glitter shaken =)
My inspiration for my card came from our garden... my girls planted red sunflowers this year and Carly took this one of hers.
Now you're prolly asking what our "STAMP OF THE WEEK" is right? It's none other than Princess LaLa, which will be on sale 20% OFF thru next Tuesday! So grab your LaLa Land stamps or digis and come SHAKE IT UP with US!! *Ü*

It's Saturday which means 2 things... the end (yay) of a very long and busy week at our county fair ... and, it's time for another DOUBLE DELIGHT with D2D!!! We're on our 4th challenge at my (& my sister's) new challenge blog where we combine the weekly free digi from Designed 2 Delight with our own card challenge. You've GOT to see what Faith made with this digi--super cute spinner type card! There's alot of wonderful talent over at the Delightful Inspiration blog with Faith and her DT so definately hop on over and check out their cards as well and then come join in our challenge! =)

There's something NEW at D2D...

Delightful Rewards LOYALTY POINTS!! :)

Each $1 purchased at http://www.designed2delight.com/ earns you $.10 to turn into a voucher to spend on your next order. Your customer account keeps track of your points for you--all you have to do is spend them. :)

It's Kathy's turn to play hostess and she wants us to use this week's free digi, "Mice Day" and use buttons and a hint of blue somewhere on your card!

I made another card topper, and as you can see I separated my grass from the flower, and added a couple more peeking mice (flipping one of them horizontally). I also added pink glitter to the petals and yellowish green stickles to the grass ... still wet when I took this pic. The papers are from my July Key Ingredients kit from Taylored Expressions. I just LOVE this month's kit and it even comes with ribbons and twill, glitter and a glue pen!

And lastly... I'll leave ya with a couple pics of my li'l cowgirls playing at in their 4-H Family Hoedown band at our County Fair. :)

Thanks for dropping by! Hope you are enjoying your summer! *Ü*

LLWWC48 - Upcycle It

Welcome to another fun challenge in LaLa Land!! Cheryl is our lovely hostess this week and wants to see us use something that we would have thrown away.... "Upcycle It!"

I used a soda pop can... rinsed, cut and dried... layed flat and ran through my cuttlebug to help flatten it out, and then put my bathtub "template" over top and cut it out. Now LaLa can relax in her posh stainless steel tub! *Ü*

I also used liquid applique and heat set it for the foamy bubbles, but that's not my "recycled" part as i would never throw out a perfectly good tube of L.A.! lol!

STAMP OF THE WEEK: Fairly LaLa! She will be on sale 20% OFF until next Tuesday!

Come on over and join the challenge this week... lots of great inspiration from the Design Team! Remember, you need to use a stamp or digi from LLLC to qualify for the Top 3 boinky or to win the $10 Gift Certificate!

Maddy's Teapot {Digi} & a CTC

Hello and happy Sunday!

I have a mixture of stuff to share today. First of all, I wanna wish my blogging friend Debbie Pamment a very Happy Birthday today!! She posted THE CUTEST project today and is offering up blog candy as well, so head on over to Debbie P's Place *Ü*

And secondly... my 10 year old, Maddy drew this teapot & cup picture that I used for my card today!! That's right! My girls (10 and 11) helped me lead music worship at church and then they stayed in the service since the leader sprained his ankle last night and was unable to come today. During the sermon I noticed my DD drawing this picture and I leaned over and said, "I could scan that into the computer and we can make a digi out of it!" and you should have seen her face!! She was on cloud 9! LOL. Funny. I thought it was really good! Although, my skills at turning a picture into a digi are zilch, zero, none! I have no clue. But I printed it out and colored with Copics.
I thought it would be fun to offer her drawing for free to everyone so Maddy posted it on her blog HERE and we added the InLinkz code so she can see what others make with it! It's great to encourage kids' artistic skills, so if you like her drawing, please consider posting a card to her blog! *Ü*

The challenge at Stamp Something is to use a Digital image.

The challenge at KLSNS is to use Ribbon.

The colors I used for my card are from this week's Color Throwdown #101. And last but not least... here is a picture of my girls in the 4-H rockin' Hoedown club. They performed at the Saturday Market yesterday and I took a couple pics as they were setting up before my batteries died! They'll be performing a couple days this week at our county fair as well. My girls are the 2 girls on the ends (in PINK). Carly plays the penny whistle and Maddy plays her green guitar. Thanks for stopping by today! Have a great week!! *Ü*

DD3 - Popcorn Chicken Anyone?

"Just CHICKEN in with ya!"

*b'gawk* Happy Saturday!! I just posted a new challenge up at Double Delight Challenges, so come on over and play along *Ü*

My challenge is to use this week's free digi from D2D (Cluck) and "Pop It Up!" You may pop up the whole chicken, or just parts of him... with dimensionals! Faith draws the cutest whimsical images doesn't she? Love them...especially farm ones *Ü*
If you played in last week's D2D challenge, then you got "Cluck" in your inbox for FREE! If you didn't, you may purchase him in the Designed 2 Delight shop for only $2 and then come enter our challenge at DOUBLE DELIGHT for a chance at our monthly drawing!! You may enter as many times as you wish... the more you enter, the more your name goes into the hat at the end of the month! The winner will receive a GC to spend in the D2D shop!! =)

I printed my image 3x and popped up the whole body (minus feathers) the first time, and then the head and wing once more. So it truly is "3D" cause I have 3 dimensions, bwahaha!!

You have until THURSDAY NIGHT, July 22nd to enter our challenge and remember to link your card HERE as well as over at Designed 2 Delight so you can get next week's digi FREE!

**Note: Chicken wire stamp is from the Rise & Shine stamp set from Layers of Color

Delightfully yours,
Kristine *Ü*

LLWWC47 - Black-n-White + 1

Hi *Ü* It's another wonderful Wednesday in LaLa Land today as we break into a new challenge... Black, White, +1 other color!

(Btw... I've been promoted to DT Coordinator for LaLa Land, so will be taking on new responsibilites. I'm happily up for the challenge ;P I'm sure it will be great as ALL the girls over there are so much FUN and super creative too!)

Our hostess this week is 1LuvnMama and she has used the newly released Bubble LaLa, so she will be on sale at 20% OFF all week (til next Tuesday!) And in case you weren't aware, LaLa now has new lower prices!

So... are you wondering how I colored my Rosie's Garden image?? I followed Katie Cotton's video tutorial on her blog... fabulous! Thank you Katie, and thanks to Pam Sparks as well for sharing that link with us DT! =) Here's a close-up:
You do NOT have to color your image in black and white like this (shades of grey actually)... you may fully color your image as long as your papers are black/white/1 other color.

For the roses, I just cut a spiral out of a circle and then starting at the outside edge, started wrapping it around a pair of tweezers until I got to the last bit and then let go a little bit to let it expand a little bit and then put a glue dot on the bigger (center and last) bit of the circle and pushed the rose down onto the glue dot. Then just ruffed up the edges, pulling and smooshing with my fingers til it was "shabby" looking and finished it off with a pearl in the center! =)

I also tried this in a blue color. Which one do you like better??
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you'll come join us for this challenge this week. We had 5 lovely players last week and I know we can do better--- so come on over! (don't make me beg! LOL)

Cock-a-Doodle-Doo... It's Tea Time!

Hello... again! Thank you friends for your prayers today (from my earlier post), they are much appreciated.

And now I have a project to share with you that I just finished today... this Teapot Giftbox! I bought the template for this from Lauren Meeder's website, My Time Made Easy. The template comes with full color picture tutorial too which makes it super easy!

This has so much potential... some samples (including the ones on Lauren's site) use designer paper which looks fab too. But for my first one, I had my dear mother in mind. Her birthday is tomorrow, and she just recently re-decorated her kitchen in crisp white and black with red accents, so I just had to make a teapot to match! I used the Rise and Shine clear art stamp set from Layers of Color.

Aren't these li'l animals so cute?! I love this set from Layers of Color. Speaking of which, I have some FABULOUS NEWS!! We have a new designer at LOC and her gallery is now open for all to enjoy!! Her name is Janice Whiting, and boy is she ever TALENTED! Seriously... she has such gorgeous artwork so if you want to be inspired and blessed, please go visit her gallery at Layers of Color! =)

Prayer Request

I got a call while at work this morning that my husband's best friend's son (20's) was in a bad 4-wheeling accident and isn't expected to make it. His skull was crushed etc and now they are talking organ donation. I just ask you all to pray for him and his family. This young man really turned his life around for the better these last few years, so it's so hard to see this happen. Anyway, prayers are much appreciated.

I don't do this often enough prolly, but when the opportunity presents itself, I feel I need to share it. What is "IT" you ask? The Good News of salvation! The Good News that there's a way you can be sure you're going to heaven after this life, to be with the Lord forever, instead of an eternity of torment and pain and total separation from God. Sometimes we forget how this life can be snatched away from us at any point in time... until something like this happens to a loved one. But if you were to get into a fatal car accident today, do you know for sure you would go to Heaven and be forever with the Lord? If not, I encourage you to CLICK HERE ... read it through completely and then take the Quiz! It will help answer some questions you may have.

Thanks for reading... and praying!
Hugs,
Kris

Limited Runs - Sunny Cupcake

Happy Monday!! I have some awesome news... I won 5 free digis at Limited Runs this weekend!! Thank you so much Nikki!! And thanks to my friend Helen for telling me about it! *Ü*

Have you heard about this digi store? Nikki has drawn the CUTEST variety of cupcakes for every ocassion, and also has some cute animals and other digis too. I loved the cupcakes as soon as I saw them... and they are so fun to color up too! Of course I just had to "IM" my sister Kathy and she even bought some for herself... so what did we do? YEP! Another "sister challenge" using this SUNNY CUPCAKE! I haven't even seen what she's made yet... So let's hop on over to see what she made using this cutie!
For my card I used the following sketch by Card Patterns. I don't know why, but I've been on this "Yellow card" kick lately. This is my ... at least 3rd yellow card that I've made in the last week! The kit I used here is from the Taylored Expressions "KEY INGREDIENTS" Kit from a couple months ago. I get them automatically to my door each month and they come with textured c.s., awesome 6x6 DP, and several kinds of embellishments... ribbon, buttons, chipboard, charms, pins... to match the colors in the DP/CS!! How cool is that?!
Thanks for dropping by!! Oh wait!! Tonight is the deadline for entering my challenge over at LaLa Land Crafts this week! Please come on over and enter to win a $10 GC to the store and a Top 3 award badge!! Please remember to use a stamp or digi from LLLC to enter! =) Happy Monday!

Meet Sprout, the Birthday Princess

Meet Sprout, the Birthday Princess... an adorable li'l poodle that's ready to P-A-R-T-A-Y! =) She's new in the store at Michelle Perkett Studio and I love her for a couple of reasons... 1) she's so adorable! and 2) she sparks a very fun memory! But before I tell that story I'll show ya the rest of my card and tell you about it *Ü*
The challenge this week at MPS is "WHITE ON WHITE with a COLORED IMAGE" -- and the challenge at KLSNS & at The Shabby Tea Room is EMBOSSING! I dry embossed the card base with the swirls folder. I also used my liquid applique glue and heat embossed the poodle and cupcake frosting. Okay, so maybe I should've used cream cardstock instead of white cause now the frosting and "fur" looks yellowed, LOL! Is that cause my applique is old? Could be! =)

I also made one of those DOUBLE SIDE STEP cards from Dawn's video tutorial.

Which reminds me... My challenge this week at LaLa Land Crafts is to make a STAIR STEP or SIDE STEP card, but you also need to use a stamp or digi from LaLa Land Crafts, so I hope you'll come on over and join us!!

OKAY... for those who wanna hear a li'l story about the POODLEs...

I was in college and 3 friends and I drove from Kansas down to Houston, TX for Spring Break. We stayed with my friend's aunt and uncle... an older couple who didn't have people children, but they DID have 2 Poodle children who they dressed up and treated like part of the family... quite literally! I don't remember exactly what the ocassion was, but while we were there, we threw these 2 poodles a party in the backyard! Streamers, balloons and all! It was quite fun and a bit ridiculous. They even had the girl dog in a diaper cause she was in heat, LOL. ANYWHO... we took these poodles and drove to Galveston... this guy had a really nice red Mustang convertable that we drove right out on the beach. We also went to our first Hard Rock Cafe which was fun!
And oh my goodness... had a really skeery experience as we droke in the middle of the night through Oklahoma with no gas station that was open when we needed it! A guy with his huge dog was circling us in his truck and hollering... and there we were broken down and helpless... out of oil and overheated! After some prayers the car started and we were able to get to a convenient store a few miles down the road where a policeman was. College life was so full of adventure and fun times. OKAY... maybe you "HAD TO BE THERE"... but to me, they were good memories =)

Double Delight #2 - Emboss It!

Good morning! It's Saturday and that means it's time for a new challenge at Double Delight, so grab this week's Designed 2 Delight image, "VINO" and come join us!! I just have to say too that last week for our first challenge we had 31 players!! WOWIE! I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to have so many of you play along with us... THANK YOU!!

If you played along at D2D last week, then you were emailed this week's digi for FREE. If not, then you'll want to go buy it in the store and then come join us at Double Delight Challenges for a chance to win a Gift Certificate at the end of the month! (You can read all about how our challenge works on the DD blog.)

It's Kathy's turn to pick the challenge this week and when she saw this flower digi, she thought of embossing (any kind). Great time to use those neglected folders girls! (LOL - if you're like me anyway and gravitate to the designer paper instead of my folders!)

However, I just got this new Cuttlebug folder from McMahon Five Designs, and these new Nesties too, which I never knew until I put them together that the shape fits perfectly in the frame! OH, I also bought these Cuttlebug fancy corner dies as well. You'd think it was MY challenge so I could use all these new products, huh? LOL! (it wasn't!) But thanks Kathy!
EDITED TO ADD: My alma mater KL Stampin N' Scrappin is also having a Dry Embossing challenge this week
The yellow and black card was my second try. My first attempt was this white one below. I wasn't too happy with it although I do love white cards--gives an elegant feel to them, but maybe it was the real dark colors against the white? Anyway... here it is.
I hope you'll hop over to my sister's blog as well and leave her some "luv"-- and then join us at Double Delight this week!! =) We'd love to have ya play along!

Also, Designed 2 Delight has a forum over at Crafter's Digital Art Center and we've been having lots of fun chit chat and sharing of cards --- everyone's welcome! *Ü*

Faith Art Friday - Give Thanks

Good Morning!! I'm so honored to work for a Christian stamp company such as Layers of Color. In case you didn't know, Fridays on the blog are set apart for "FAITH ART" by one or more of the design team. Today I have the honor of posting this card over there to share with all our LOC fans, and here is what I shared to go along with it. (There might be more Faith Art cards by some of my DT sisters posted there as well today, so be sure to pop on over and see!!)

Some of my favorite stamps to create with are birds... I think because they remind me how precious we are in God's eyes. They are so small, and yet God provides for them. Just think how much more He wants to give us what we need! And to think how beautiful these little creatures are... and yet He created US in His image! When I think about birds singing in the early morning, it reminds me of how God wants us to sing songs of praise to Him, and He gives us a fresh new start every day to do just that. We have a choice how we start the day... are we going to wake up grumbling because we have to go to work, or anticipating the kids fighting, the bills that need paid or the housework that needs done... or are we going to wake up being thankful for a new day and give God thanks for a new start and for His love that endures forever... no matter what our day brings, His love never changes! This verse I used on my card reminds me of a song by Chris Thomlin that I'd like to share with you...

Give thanks to the Lord
Our God and King
His love endures forever
For He is good, He is above all things
His love endures forever
Sing praise, sing praise

With a mighty hand
and outstretched arm
His love endures forever
For the life that's been reborn
His love endures forever
Sing praise, sing praise
Sing praise, sing praise

Forever God is faithful
Forever God is strong
Forever God is with us
Forever
Forever

From the rising to the setting sun
His love endures forever
By the grace of God
We will carry on
His love endures forever
Sing praise, sing praise
Sing praise, sing praise

(here's an upclose shot at my flowers. I used stardust gellyroll pen to hightlight them and a champaign pearl in the centers.)

Thanks for poppin' by! I hope you'll come visit all of us at Layers of Color and see the beautiful artwork being uploaded to the Designers' galleries. You will be inspired!! =)

Tomorrow we will have another challenge up at Double Delight Challenges, so get your Designed 2 Delight image ready and join us!!

Happy {Lucky} Retirement

**If you're looking for this week's LaLa Land Challenge, please CLICK HERE

Havin' a great summer?? It's been so nice here lately, in the high 80's but we're stayin' cool =) Anyway, my mom finally retired from her job at the Warm Springs (Indian) Elementary school after 23 years! They already threw her a party, so I'm a li'l late with this, but this is for her. I've been wanting to try one of these fruity summer drink cards, and thought I'd make a great big one and float Lucky in it! *Ü* Isn't he cute all "Chillaxin'?" LOL. He's one of the new summer stamps from LaLa Land Crafts! Lots of really cute ones, and this week LaLa on a Swing is on sale at 20% OFF! Thanks for droppin' by!

LLWWC46 - Step It Up!

Happy Wednesday!! It's another fun challenge in LaLa Land today and I get to be this week's hostess! *Ü*

Since I'm on a "step card" kick lately, I'd like you all to use your stamps or digis from LaLa Land Crafts and make your choice of a STAIR STEP card, SIDE STEP card, or a DOUBLE SIDE STEP card!! I've linked you to some easy tutorials over on the LaLa Land Crafts Blog to help you out. But they are really easier than they look, so don't be shy!! *Ü*

Also, since I've used the LaLa on a Swing stamp, she will be on sale 20% OFF through next Tuesday!! (already marked down in the store!)

I made my card a SIDE STEP card. These are fun to embellish with your border punches, Nesties, or to create a scene! The LaLa Design Team has created some REALLY FANTASTIC cards, so be sure to hop on over and check them out!!

Also entering this in this week's KLSNS challenge: Summer or Beach themed cards! Thanks!

Be Still and Know...

Morning!! Today's an observed holiday for us, so while the rest of the fam is sleeping in I thought I'd share a card I made using the gorgeous butterfly from Layers of Color's clear art set, "Butterfly Collector" (which happens to be my very first stamp set I owned), and the Basic Grey paper "Capella." The sentiment is a "plain Jane" stamp from Verve. They have lots of wonderful single stamps with verses. Speaking of which... I believe I hear something is in the works with verse images at Layers of Color! Shhhh, it's not official yet, maybe it's a rumor? If you have a favorite verse you'd like to see LOC come out with I'm sure Laura would love to hear about it! Just leave a comment on the blog =)

Anyway, here's a closer up picture of the butterfly. I prolly should've left some white border all around it so it stands out a bit more, but anyway, can you see the glittery dots in the middle of her? The light captured half of it anyway, LOL!
This would make a nice card to give someone who is just needing to feel God's presence. Someone who might need comfort and just know that God is there for them.

I love creating with Scripture... so much of it is so relevant and can touch a heart in the subtlest or most profound way. I know I've received cards or letters of encouragement right when I needed it, and I know God used that person to speak to me. And other times I am prompted to send a card to someone else, maybe I don't even know WHY I'm sending it but the Lord wanted me to do it. One time when I did that, a lady (new to our church) broke into tears and told me all about her abusive life with her boyfriend, living in a camp trailer with her 3 kids and how 2 of them had broken arms at the same time (because of this abusive boyfriend) and she didn't have a job and didn't know what to do or where to go. I'll never forget that. She said my card assured her that God is present in her situation and until that point, she had a hard time knowing if God even cared about her life. But she said that THAT day, she felt God's presence and she knew she needed to take her kids and leave. I told her about the Gospel Mission in town that houses the homeless for a brief time, until they can get on their feet. I'm very happy to say that today she and her 3 kids are in a low-income house that only requires $110 per month and that is being covered! I don't say all this happened because of a card. But it happened because of GOD and the fact that He used a simple Faith card to minister to this lady's heart. Just goes to show you that you may not know WHO you are making a card for, or WHY someone may need it... but the things of God surpass our own understanding... His ways are High above ours and He can and does work through those who trust in Him.

So I encourage you to be sensitive to what the Lord is telling you as you create. He can use even the smallest gesture such as a greeting card to touch the life of someone who needs Him!

Jesus Loves the Little Children

Happy Sunday, and Happy Independence Day to all my American friends out there!! What a great day this is... a time to celebrate the Lord's Day and our nation's independence all at once.

In the past when the 4th fell on a Sunday, our town would have it's festivities on Saturday, but this year, since we are also celebrating our town's Centennial, we are having a community worship service in the park today followed by our parade and lots of fun events and food courts in the park. It's actually a 2-day event which started yesterday with hot air balloons, an old time car show, ugliest/cutest dog contest, heritage booths and the fireman's dunk tank in the park. Then of course a big fireworks show tonight! We'll be going to my parents later today for a BBQ and then watching the show out on their front lawn. They are on a hill so we have a nice view while we sit in lawn chairs, or the kids will sit on a blanket on the grass and eat popcorn.

Anyway, I don't have a patriotic card to show today... however I have a wonderful short story about this card I made. Last Sunday I posted a devotional here on my blog and Sue of McMahon Five Designs was very touched by it that she was inspired to do what she can to help spread the Good News too... so she drew this wonderful digi of Jesus and a little boy!! She also made it available with or without the scenery in the background. Isn't it sweet?! I love it!! She also drew THIS ONE, and they are both available in the shop right now.

All the supplies used on this card is from M5D.

I don't have too many embellishments on this one, but they also have tons of floral and pearl embellishements in stock as well! If you haven't signed up for the M5D Newsletter, I urge you to do so because they have sale codes and contests listed in there for subscribers only!

Right now we're having a "Mystery Designer Contest" where anyone could win one of FIVE PRIZE PACKAGES!! If you missed my post, please see HERE. Have FUN!!

I started making cards while I was away from home Christmas 2007 and wanted to do something special for my friends and family. I made a few cards here and there until I started blogging and saw all the beautiful inspiration in blogland and the rest his history. I now love playing with my paper and am completely hooked.
I love butterflies, lavender (actually, herbs in general), cupcakes, hearts, chocolate, and my garden (not necessarily in that order; it depends on the day), oh, and how could I forget, cookies.
