Explosion Box Tutorial

Hi stampers!  Today I'm going to show you how I made my {Super Star Boy} Explosion Box that I posted yesterday.  This is a "spin off" of the tutorial posted on SCS.  I changed a few things like the size, cut my corner "wings" off, and added a rooftop!  I hope you will find this tutorial easy as I took lots of pictures along the way, and as always, you can left click on the pictures to enlarge for detail.   If you have any questions, please use my chat box in my sidebar or you may leave a comment here with your email.

Hello hello, my wonderful bloggy friends!!  Have I got a fun project to share with YOU today for our challenge at Going Grey with Scrap-Creations  as well as OSAAT and IWD =)   But first, I have a winner to announce *Ü* In case you missed my game, I asked my readers to tell me which movie my blog header was inspired by, and the answer is...
"The Princess Bride"
(one of my faves!)

And winner of their choice of rubber stamp from LaLa Land Crafts is... Helen of "Creative Jeans"! Congrats Helen!!! Please browse the store and then let me know which single stamp is your favorite!

Speaking of MOVIE THEMES... our challenge this week at GGWSC is to make a card or other project inspired by a movie!!  I know, I know... mine is TOO EASY!  Lol  ;0P

"It's a bird... It's a plane... It's..."

I created an explosion box inspired by the movie... Superman! I used stamps from the brand new Super Heroes collection at LaLa Land Crafts. I'll be posting my tutorial on how I made this tomorrow, both here and at LaLa Land Crafts.

One Stitch at a Time:  Anything Goes
Incy Wincy Designs:  Anything Goes

DD13 - Sponged or Distressed

Ok, don't laugh... but I think I totally missed the challenge!  {lol}  Oh YAY... I thought I did the wrong challenge, but Kathy corrected me so Whew!  Kathy picked the theme for our next DOUBLE DELIGHT CHALLENGE using this week's free image/s called "Peace & Comfort"-- it's actually a set of 4 images this week and includes sentiments too!  Thank you so much Faith!  (She had gotten a couple of requests for sympathy type images, and what a beautiful set she came up with!)

So this week's challenge is to sponge or distress.  We'd love to have you join us so you can get next week's digi free and be entered into our monthly drawing!!  We'll be picking a winner next Friday.

I've been wanting to make one of these watercolor cards for so long and I had the perfect set of Nesties (Labels 6) ... so when I got these free images in my inbox I  decided to go for it!   *Ü*    I was totally inspired by Yvonne-annabelle's cards... she does amazing things with Nesties and watercolor paper.  If you don't subscribe to her blog you're really missing out!

I used this week's Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge for my sketch, although I got in on it too late to be entered.  They also have a bonus challenge of making a card OWH and mailing it to them for the troops.  Wich reminds me... my challenge blog DOUBLE DELIGHT is extending our OWH challenge thru the end of the month.  I also am entering this in Stampin Sisters in Christ challenge which is to "Use a Christian symbol of peace somewhere on your card/project, or create a card/project that shows or shares peace."

I love how elegant watercolor paper looks as a base for cards.  I printed my images on watercolor paper and let it dry a while.  Then after cutting it out with Labels 6 Nestie, I left it in the die, masked the image and sponged on olive classic ink.  That left me with a nice white border.  To color the flowers, I used Copic markers and then blended with the colorless blender.  I added sparkly clear gellyroll pen to the middle of each flower.  Images are popped up onto olive cardstock and paper pierced around them.  (I just eyed it)  Corner pieces are the Fancy Corners by Cuttlebug.

Before I go I wanted to be sure to let you know about some really FUN things happening at Designed 2 Delight... in their CDAC forum... for World Card Making Day on October 2nd!!  This is straight from the D2D blog:
The D2D Design Team has been busy brainstorming ideas for a CDAC party on World Card Making Day.  It is going to be SO much fun!!
Here is a link to our Designed2Delight Crafter's Digital Art Center Group.
There are two challenges that were posted this morning. Find the details in our forum.
One winner will receive the entire set of new releases that will come out October 2nd.

You can R.S.V.P here.

There will be contests going on all day--random winners, wish-list winners, challenge winners, EXCLUSIVE CDAC member discount to my digi store   ...and MORE!

Now doesn't that sound like FUN??  I'm definately gonna be there.  I want a chance at some FREEBIES!!  =)

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great weekend *Ü*

Marci with Rose

Today I'm sharing a card that I made several weeks ago and forgot to post here on my blog.  She is from the very first Marci collection at LaLa Land Crafts, and is possibly my favorite Marci so far.  Well... honestly, she's in a tight run with the Super Cupcake Marci in my header as well as Birthday Marci with the cute pig tails and panda bear, LOL!  I'm loving them all.  Have you all seen the new Halloween and Super Hero collections??   If not, you must go see some of the DT's samples!  They are so awesome.

I decided to try coloring her darker-skinned with my Copics and think she turned out pretty good, especially with this DP.  I used Spellbinders Labels 13 to cut her out and those corner tulips are the Fancy Corners from Cuttlebug.   The DP and coral flower were gifts from Irina (of LaLa land Crafts) and I don't know who makes them...sorry!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great Thursday *Ü*

DD12 - Operation Write Home Challenge

We have a special challenge this week at DOUBLE DELIGHT CHALLENGES to celebrate the birthday of Operation Write Home!! So our challenge this week is

to make cards for our military heroes and then send them to one of their mailroom clerks at Operation Write Home. They will bundle them and send them off overseas. Your cards may be any theme (ie. birthday, anniversary, holiday, etc) .

VERY IMPORTANT--- please read the basic guidelines. **Please be aware of Holiday deadlines as they need to mail them early (6-8 weeks before)... the very LATEST Postmarked DEADLINES for holiday cards are as follows:

Halloween -- September 20
Thanksgiving -- October 1
Christmas -- OCtober 30
Any other cards -- Anytime!

  • Perhaps the MOST important rule is NO GLITTER on your cards (it's actually a safety hazard for our heroes!)
  • They need A2 sized cards, with or w/o envelopes,
  • Please write, stamp, or attach a label to the backs of cards that says "Operation Write Home"
  • Include a packing slip.
  • Mail your card to one of their shippers in the OWH mailroom!
  • Please read all other "basic guidelines" on the site.
Let's have fun with this one and shower our military heroes with cards that they can send home to their families and friends... or you may even send a note of encouragement to a hero him/herself! **NOTE: please enter as many NEW cards for this challenge as you'd like. EVERYONE who partipcates in this special challenge this week will be emailed this cutie called "Star Spangled Snowman", drawn up by Faith especially for our challenge!!

**Please note: This image is not the one you need to use to get next week's digi Free. We are deviating from our regular challenge this week. You will want to use your "SCAREDY CAT" digi this week in order to get next week's digi FREE! Please see Delightful Inspiration Blog to read more about D2D's progressive challenge freebie!

I've Been Published!

Happy Thursday papercraft peeps!!  Do you mind if I toot my horn a li'l bit today??  (If so I guess you can stop reading now, cause I don't have a new card to share today, but you might be interested in seeing my Pop Up Stage Card I posted yesterday!  LOL

I feel so honored (and excited!) to have been discovered through my gallery at SCS by Laura Boetto, writer and contributor for an awesome new papercrafts magazine called "Papers and Pixels"   There is a 9-page section (of this 78 page Premier Edition) on easel cards and my Sweet Dreams Marci is showcased on pages 34-35!!  How fun!  This magazine just went live yesterday and anyone can sign up to get your FREE edition!!  Just go HERE and click to subscribe... it's that easy!!

There's lots of great inspiration, tutorials on techniques etc. and I read a great article about "white space" for scrapping or digi scrapping!  They show you before and after pictures on pages where the elements are all spread out on a page and then how they grouped them together to create a focal point and leaving "white space" (doesn't have to be white, can be colored!) around your edges to draw your eye to the picture you want to stand out.  It's really very interesting!  There's also a tutorial on making a Shadow Box card... and even a SKETCH CHALLENGE in there (for cards OR scrap pages!!)  So run on over and pick up your free copy today!!

New Release Day is Here!!

"I'll Be Your Candle On The Water"
Exciting day today as LaLa Land officially releases Irina's new Marci line in deep-etched red rubber stamps!! Each measures approximately 4" tall, except for the panda which measures about 2" tall.

Speaking of the PANDA... as a new release special, if you buy all 5 Marci rubber stamps, you will get the adorable 2" tall Panda stamp FREE!! Wanna WIN MORE FREE STAMPS! There will be lots of Marci cards showcased TODAY and each day this week on the LaLa Land Crafts blog. Throughout this week, leave a comment there, letting us know what you think of our latest addition, and you could WIN the entire NEXT release! Yup...we've got a Halloween release coming soon...and you could win Pirate Luka and some adorable Halloween Marci stamps, just by leaving a comment! Commenting every day will increase your odds of winning (but only 1 comment per day, please!) We'll put all the comments in a hat and draw a winner – and it could be YOU!

I was inspired to make this card by a memory of my own 2 daughters when they were in ballet. They performed a dance called "I'll Be Your Candle On the Water" (from Pete's Dragon... remember that?) It was a beautiful song and perfect for a ballet, I'd cry every time I see them perform. *sniff sniff* Ok, anyway... when I saw the TLC289 challenge on SCS was to make a POP UP STAGE card I knew exactly what stamps I would use.

I made my card 5.5" Square instead of the A2 size to allow for my ballerinas to fold and not stick outside my card when folded. I used some Wisteria paper (Basic Grey) and matching chipboard by the same that Irina sent me in my DT Package--thanks again Irina!! I also used a heavy clear cardstock for my "tabs" so they won't be as noticeable behind her legs. The elements in back fold forward and the elements in front fold backwards so you actually CAN mail this card. It would take extra postage but ya know what? THIS one won't be seeing the inside of an envelope because it's sentimental--it will adorn our piano instead. *Ü*

Hope you'll hop on over to see what else my DT sisters made for you using a variety of Marci stamps!!

And if you're in the Bay Area – don't forget the Trunk Show TODAY at Cranberry Hill Mercantile in Sunnyvale from 4-7pm and on Saturday, September 18th at Scrapbook U in Fremont. Click through for more details and instructions on getting tickets!

Happy Stamping in YOUR crafting LaLa Land!! =)

Welp...  one more day of summer here for us!  The girls start back to school tomorrow... so we celebrated the end of summer last night by taking the girls fishing down at The Cove.  I even caught a li'l bass!  But overall they just weren't biting.  But we still had lots of fun.  After we fished for a while the girls jumped in and swam in their clothes!  We weren't really prepared with swim suits or towels, but we thought, what the hay!  Prolly their last chance for the summer.  Got a bit chilly though, but ... just a perfect ending to our summer vacation.

Have a Terrific Tuesday!!  *Ü*

For my sentiment, I cuttlebugged some pumpkin c.s. with an Autumn sentiments folder and cut apart one word "Thankfulness." I also added colored glitter with a 2-way glue pen to the leaves and hung it on some ribbon with pop dots on the back for dimension. The paper I used is from my Key Ingredients kit from Taylored Expressions.

Thanks for dropping in! Hope you're enjoying the weekend. School starts here this Wednesday. Oiy, I'm not ready. ;)

You GO Girl... & Some Great News!

I have some GREAT NEWS to share! And I will, but first I want to share my card made with Cheerleader Marci in colors that my daughter picked out. Maddy has been wanting me to use "Shock Pink" for some time, so I finally made her wish come true, Lol. I know my greens don't look like they match, but they really do look closer in color IRL (in real life)!!

This cutie is available for only a few more days (as a digi) at LaLa Land Crafts! Then she will be available in rubber on September 15!! Now THAT'S something to cheer about! (although I DO love the digis too!)

And now for my GREAT NEWS!!!
Faith, of Designed 2 Delight has offered to sponsor my DD's blog, SKETCHES BY CARLY for the month of September!! Many Thanks Faith! We love your delightful images! And starting today, we have a new sketch for you to follow. This challenge will be available for ONE WEEK and then Carly will pick a winner who will get an image of their choice at Designed 2 Delight shop! You may use whatever images you'd like, however if you have D2D images, we'd love to see you use them! Be sure to link up at {THIS POST} for your chance to win! We will have another contest each week throughout September!!

It's the Little Things...

Hello! I have another Marci with Rose card to share today, and this is possibly my favorite Marci in this line of stamps so far. You can use her for birthdays, Mother's day, a sweet Thank You note, and many more ocassions. She is available all this week as a digi at LaLa Land Crafts!

Carly's got a new sketch up at SKETCHES BY CARLY! I used #9, "Cute as a Button", except I cheated a bit and used DP instead of buttons. ;P The DP is from my Key Ingredients Kit from Taylored Expressions.

Marci is colored with Copics, cut out leaving a little white, and then layered on black and cut out again (for a shadow effect). Machine-stitched all around my card. Thanks for looking!!

Have a great Thursday!!

Introducing... Marci with Rose

Happy Wednesday!! Wow, I'd lose my head if I didn't have friends to remind me what day it was, LOL! I almost didn't get my post ready to go, but you know what Wednesdays are... my day to post at LaLa Land Crafts!

Today we're releasing Marci with Rose

She is the last in this FIRST release of Marci's. She is available in DIGI for one week only, starting today. And remember, all 5 Marci's (plus a surprise stamp) will be returning on September 15th ... as RUBBER STAMPS!! Gotta love that!

Also, if you didn't grab the uber cute Cheerleader Marci, she is still available as a digi for just a few more days!! I hope you'll come over to the LLLC Blog and scroll down to see the extreme CUTENESS that the DT have been posting every day!

For my card above, I used sketch #2 at SKETCHES BY CARLY.
She now has InLinkz on all her sketch posts, so if you use one, please leave a link so she can see what you've made!! *Ü* (she's my 11 yr. old daughter and has created quite a few sketches recently!) Can you see this sketch in my card?? I had to eliminate those circles in top left, but it's basically the same ; P

Before I go, I want to also remind you that all past LaLa's, Rosie's and animals stamps are on SALE for 25% OFF!! What a fabulous deal!! There are definatley some cuties there and Christmas is right around the corner!! {wink}
