Teachers Map the World

Happy Sunday everyone!

Just a note first of all to let you know that I'm done with my little rant and am a little embarrased that I even did that yesterday, I hope I didn't offend anyone!!
SO...with that being said, I have a couple cards to show you today!! My mom has worked as a teacher's assistant for the past 23 years and so she's always asking me for ideas for cards/gifts for the teachers she works with. (she doesn't have internet *gasp* -- I KNOW!! lol) She wanted to come over and make 2 male teacher cards, and since my girls' teachers are both male this year, here's what I came up with:

I saw HP's card on SCS from 2004, which made me remember the stamp I had from an old SU! set called "Peace"- it was a Christmas set.
Although I used blues, I don't know, I hope these aren't too girly?? I'm sooo bad at making male cards except the ones that use elk or fish, lol. Here, I used Soft Sky and Blue Bayou. Both white layers are cuttlebugged with the Spots and Dots folder. The saying, I printed from my computer. What do you think?
The inside will be a thank you (of course). Oh ya, I also posted pics on my family blog from last weekend when my bff from college came to visit with her kids. I set up a seperate blog so I could keep this one mostly stamped creations...I'm sure some of you will appreciate that, lol. (if you'd like to see them, click on the "my family blog" link)

A little Venting...

I don't normally do this...vent on my blog; however, I'm just fed up with this type of people that I thought, "it can't just be ME that's irritated by this new "fashion" right?" Surely other people will be able to relate! but even not, "It's my blog and I can rant if I want to, rant if I want to, rant if I want to--You would rant too if it happened to YOU!!" (in case you didn't get that, it's to the tune of "It's my party and I'll cry if I want to")

First of all, here are the definitions that I just looked up:

Vent:
1. opening for air: a small opening that allows fresh air to enter or stale air, gas, smoke, or steam to escape
2. release of strong feelings: a release or expression of strong feelings or emotions

I believe either definition would apply. What am I venting about?? Cleavage!! I'm tired of seeing it. Now, I'm not talking about breast cleavage-- I'm talking about the buttox!! With all the hip hugger jean-wearers out there, I've experienced waaaay too many times grown women in their 20s and 30's who wear those hip hugger jeans only to sit down right in front of me and show about the top third of the buttox!! I'm not kidding!! I was at my daughters Spring concert at school a couple weeks ago, sitting in the back when a young lady came in with her boyfriend and sat right in front of me and didn't have the decency to put on a jacket to cover her backside. Before that, I took my girls swimming at indoor Aquatic Center. I was sitting at one of the tables reading a book. At the next table were about 3 moms visiting. Another mom came over to join them, and sat down (again) right in front of me wearing a tank top and low riding jeans and there she was!

Then it happened again TODAY at the park. The girls and I sat on the brick ledge to eat our lunch because all the tables were full. It was the first nice day we've had in a couple weeks after all. When one of the moms went and sat on the pavement, 20 ft directly in front of us, with her backside cleavage hanging out. WHAT IS GOING ON??!?!!! I'm not one to look at people's backsides, but when it comes and plops itself right in front of you, you can't help it!! Forgive me for being judgemental, but holy cow--COVER UP PEOPLE!! You're grossing me out!! OK...I really am a sweet delightful person, honestly I am, LOL. Ok, I'm done venting. And if any of you even THINK about sending me pictures of this grotesquity, OOOOHHHHH!!! Don't you dare!!

A Double Wammy!!

This is what I call my own personal double whammy challenge, lol.

First of all, I was going for the color challenge this week, which was pretty easy--Celery, Pretty in Pink, and Chocolate Chip. REALLY, how many times have we all gotten out those colors and made a dozen cards--well, maybe not at one time, but that is a very popular color scheme. Not hard right? Well, just so happens that when I went to do a card I realized I had NO TAPE!! NO GLUE either! So, my daughter challenged me to make a 1-layered card. I cringed, I cried, well, not quite ;P But my dd was home sick for 2 days and I couldn't just run out and buy some double-sided tape at the store. SO, here's what I came up with. Ya, I'm not really proud of this one. I'm definately a layer girl :D

OK, *slapping forehead* - Where's my brain...Why didn't I just SEW my layers on like I did in the previous post!! HELLO!!! It was definately a Monday when I made this, Lol. Oh, wait, it was actually a Tuesday, sorry.

Birthday Magnolia

Hi. Can you believe that amazing blog candy over at Katharina's??!! You can read about it in the post below. I just found it, so I'm still buzzed about it, heehee. :D

Anyway, this little cutie was in my stash of stamped images from Trina. I added a nose and a smile to her--just thought she really needed that, and I was right. I actually practiced with vellum over the top first!

I followed the sketch challenge from last week, #172. Very easy sketch, I might add. The colors here are Pixie Pink and Green Galore, and some dp with those colors in it. I ran the pink layer through my cuttlebug with the birthday folder, and since I was out of glue or tape, I machine stitched the layers--I knew it was good for something!! LOL.

The girl image is held on with pop dots. I added clear stickles to the scallop border on the cake as well as the plate--don't know why, just love glitter, :D Wish I had some pink embroidery thread--I would've made little bows for her ponies. Maybe next time. Thanks again Trina for stamping me some of these adorable images!!

Wanna WIN some brand NEW RUBBA???!!!

Katharina is going to be giving away this adorable stamp, along with more cute stamped images soon, so go check out her post, follow the simple instructions and leave her a comment HERE:

Magnolia Sketch

Here's a card I made yesterday using some of those adorable Magnolia stamps that Trina sent me.

I tried using TLC172 except I used a square base instead of rectangle.

For the flower piece, I used SU!'s "So Many Scallops" set with my scallop circle punch. Then I added a bashful blue circle for the center. Now for the sentiment--which was hard for me--I searched my stash of word stamps and didn't find anything that would go real well with this scene, so I printed this saying on my computer and attached with a big pop dot. The dp is from SU!, and I added clear stickles to all the raindrops and puddle in her hand. :D Thanks for looking!

High Hopes - Jungle Boy

Well, here's my first card made with my blog candy winnings from Nikki. :D

This spotted paper was in the package as well as some adorable new High Hopes Jungle stamped images--aren't they super cute? I machine stitched the dp to really rust textured c.s. and then adhered it to Always Artichoke card base, which is 5 3/8" square. Choc. Chip photo corners with twine wrapped through and an artichoke strip, cuttlebugged with spots and dots and punched with fiskars fence border help break up all the "spots'. And to finish it off, I wrapped the binoculars thru a hole in the fencing and added clear stickles to both sets of lenses. I think I got a little carried away with my sentiment as far as sponging colors onto it, I kept going and going, but I kinda like it because it makes the boy image stand out from the rest of it. Whadduya think? :D

Whispered Prayers

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted something new! We've had crazy weather here; the 1st part of last week it snowed, then it got warm and last weekend it was near 90!! So, we played outside a lot & got a little sunburned. Just couldn't stay in and create with the weather as nice as it was. Then today it hailed!! CRAZY!!
So, I made this card today. I wanted it to be special for my neighbor who has horses. I couldn't find a clear frame at dollar tree like I wanted, so I made a card instead. I love this saying from PTI's "Everyday Blessings" set and thought it would be really cool stamped on top of the horse.

(Some of you might remember my post about my neighbor's husband passing away--very unexpectedly last year. He had a stroke when he was unloading a 4-wheeler off the trailor and he fell head first on the pavement and later died. Really sad. So, she's helping run the cattle business and she's been soo very kind and let our girls go ride her horses and they got to bottle-feed the calves.) Our girls remember her in their prayers at dinner almost every night!

Back to the card: the bodies of the butterflies are clear rhinestones. The B-flies are from Papertrey Ink's set "Butterfly Kisses" and I used the flower patterned ones. Then I used teal stickles in the centers of all the flowers.

I stamped the Baroque Motifs' flourish on the striped bg paper and added a silver heart to the ribbon. What do ya think?

Weekend Sketch Challenge

Today's my first time trying Beate's WSC and I can't believe I stayed up til after 11 p.m. to finish it! (I started it way late TBW) anyway, here it is!

I used more of my Loves Me paper by Imaginisce from MDC, along with Cranberry Crisp and Always Artichoke c.s. and stamps from the Pun Fun set (SU!) This actually fits TLC162 "Paper Tole" as well.

The pink cardstock is actually a canvas-looking design and is the back side of the floral paper you see here! Isn't it pretty? I used the same cardstock for my Family Tree HERE.

For the lamb, (I mean "EWE") I stamped him on the pink c.s. and again on white c.s. Then I cut out the white wool part and popped it up on top of my pink ewe with SU! dimensionals. Then I stamped the heart on a small pink scrap, cut out, and mounted on top of white with dimensionals too. Faux stitching all around completes the look. :D Thank EWE for dropping by!! P.S. Could I possibly get more links in one post??!! LOL.

Stinky Flap Card

Heehee...not really! It's taken me forever to use this li'l guy. So, I made another flap card. All ingredients are SU! The base is Purely Pomegranate and I used "Faux stitching" all around.

The skunk is from the set "Pun Fun". Turned out pretty cute don'tcha stink?

I mean
THINK
Lol.

My Family *Tree*

Have you been to the dollar tree lately? It's one of my favorite stores for finding things to alter. I found this cute little wooden tree frame the other day and finally dressed it today.

For the top part, I used designer paper from Imaginisce called "Loves Me" that I bought online at Mothers & Daughters Creations. First, I took the back part off the frame and took out the plastic piece, then layed the tree down on the backside of my dp and traced the outline (just the top part) and the picture holes. Then I used my exacto knife to cut them out. I adhered the dp with really good double-sided tape (pretty much covered the frame really well, esp. around the openings).

For the bottom, I used Close to Cocoa textured c.s. and inked up the Antique Cracking bg stamp with Choc. Chip ink to make it look more like bark. Then I sponged choc. chip ink around edges and spotty on top a bit. I wondered if I should add some prima flowers to this, but I think it would be too much. I sponged celery ink around edges of top portion. It has a "Kick stand" on the back, or a hanger to hang on top. :D It looks nice on one of my new shelves ;P Thanks for dropping by!! Hope you have a super weekend.

Butterfly Kisses

A couple days ago I happened across Melissa Bickford's awesome blog, and saw this card of hers. I love her style...and no wonder--She's a Papertrey Ink Stamp Designer!!

When I sat down to create this card today, my computer was down, so I was trying to go by memory and combine what I remember her card looked like and this other card of hers. These are my absolute favorite cards so far. Anyway, other than my dimensions being a little off, I came really close to it. I am not ashamed of copycatting here because I LOVE these cards so much. As long as you give the person credit ;) I think CASEing is just fine. So there you have it! :D

STAMPS: Butterfly Kisses & Everyday Blessings (Papertrey Ink)
INK: Certainly Celery; Rose Red (craft)
PAPER: Miss Elizabeth's "Petite" pack; Rose Romance & Whisper White (SU!)
ACCESSORIES: rhinestone stick-ons; black marker (for antenaes); clear stickles (flower centers); white grosgrain ribbon; paper scoring (I don't own any nestabilities so I faked it!)

Paper Tole Technique

Hi all! First of all I want to address the question you've all been asking, or at least most of you are wondering... I'm soo disappointed to tell you this, but "NO"...this blog banner is not my home :( Sure WISH it WAS though!! I'd invite you all over to have a latté with me :P It does look so inviting and cozy...so we'll just pretend ;D

And NEXT, here is my card I did for yesterday's technique challenge #162. I wasn't sure what paper "tole" was, but simply, it's popping up elements of an image to give it a 3d effect.

You can see the images that I popped up better in the second photo. Keep in mind this was my 1st attempt at this technique and looking back, I should've popped up different elements like her clothes instead of her head, lol. OH WELL... live and learn!

I popped up:

  • Her Head & Hair
  • Her Shoes
  • Flowers in her Hand
  • Flowers and Heart on her shirt
  • Heart on the Sentiment
  • Sentiment on the Scallop
  • Scallop on the Card
