Just Checkin In!

Sorry it's been sooo long since I've blogged, but nothing bad has happened. Actually, quite the contrary. We joined a church last month and so I've been busy doing some volunteer work for them. One of the things I'm working on is trying to build a website. Actually, I need to find one with a Christian-themed template that I can just add our stuff to. I have searched and did trial websites for 22 web-hosting companies this week. Most have difficult site builders. SO... I need to ask you ladies...

DO YOU OR DO YOU KNOW OF SOMEONE WHO BUILDS WEBSITES OR TEMPLATES, OR EVEN WHO WOULD JUST DO A BANNER/HEADER FOR US?? I have an idea of what we'd like, but we don't have $200 to spend. Please let me know if you can help...THANKS!!

Made this for a little girl who loves horses!! I don't own any bella stamps, however I swapped a bunch of images with Ally Blankenship a while ago, so THANKS ALLY!!

My daughter also loves horses right now--I'm soo excited that I actually got a magazine in the mail today that has a ton of collector Christmas ornaments in just about anything you can imagine, and found her the cutest horsey one. We have a tradition every year where my hubby and I get a sitter and we go shopping for a special ornaments for each kid that reflects something about that year (ie. what they're "into") so my other daughter is getting a piano ornament, since she's very into music and is going to be taking piano lessons starting next week. They both are, but I just HAVE to get the horse one for my oldest. Then we write on the bottom their name and the year. That way when they get married they'll have a box of special ornaments that have sentimental value and she can relive the happy memories of what they were "into". :) I know what you're thinking..."well, if she orders them, then she won't have a reason to get a sitter and go shopping with your hubby!" well, don't you worry your pretty little heads about THAT!! We can take that opportunity to go to dinner and a movie, or just dinner--out of town. Ok, I'm getting waaay off the subject here. Back to the card!!

THE CARD: The saddle is shiny and so is her band on her hat and shoulders on shirt--that's from colored Sakura Stardust gellyroll pens!! I LOVE ÉM!! The rest I just watercolored with my aqua painter and classic ink pads. This card came together very quickly as I had these blue and pink backgrounds already cut--left over from my niece's T.Y. cards. :) Just needed a quickie. Thanks for visiting!! :)

Stamps: Giddyupabella (Stampingbella); Paisley bg (SU!)
Cardstock: Pretty in Pink; white; Creamy Caramel; designer (?)
Accessories: silver brads; brown gingham ribbon; rose grosgrain ribbon; Sakura Stardust Gellyroll pens; sponge

Remembering 9/11

I got this in an email - I'm sure you've all seen it too, but It's worth remembering and so I'd like to leave it here on my blog.

The 'L I T T L E' Things .

As you might know, the head of a company survived 9/11 because his son started kindergarten.

Another fellow was alive because it was His turn to bring donuts.

One woman was late because her Alarm clock didn't go off in time.

One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike Because of an auto accident.

One of them Missed his bus.

One spilled food on her clothes and had to take Time to change.

One's Car wouldn't start.

One went back to Answer the telephone.

One had a child that dawdled And didn't get ready as soon as he should have.

One couldn't Get a taxi.

The one that struck me was the man Who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, Took the various means to get to work But before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid. That is why he is alive today.

Now when I am Stuck in traffic, Miss an elevator, Turn back to answer a ringing telephone... All the little things that annoy me.. I think to myself, This is exactly where God wants me to be at this very moment...

Next time your morning seems to be Going wrong:
The children are slow getting dressed,
You can't seem to find the car keys,
You hit every traffic light,

Don't get mad or frustrated; God is at work watching over you. May God continue to bless you With all those annoying little things And may you remember their possible purpose. AMEN

Love from Oregon

I made two of these cards today to send to a couple of special men who are living with cancer; my uncle and Trina's uncle {see special RAK request here}.

I don't know about you, but it's when I'm at the coast, looking out at the vast ocean and sky that I am reminded how Great God is!!...and how small I and my problems are. It's amazing that even though we are tiny specks on earth, He knows each of us by name, knew us before we were even formed in the womb, and loves each of us so much that the measure of His heart defies the human mind.

Anyway, sometimes the Lord touches people's hearts through ordinary people like us, so I just want to send them a smile and a reminder how much they are loved and thought of. If you'd like to send Trina's uncle a card, please see the link at the top. She will send you his addy if you email her. Thanks!

Stamps: Coast to Coast; Stippled Shells (both SU! retired); Warm wishes (SU!)
Cardstock: Soft Sky; Blue Bayou; watercolor

Accessories: Aqua Painter & classic ink pads; silver hardware; silver cord; southwest corner punch; sponge

A Little Sparkle for Maddy

Many of you know who Maddy Mason is... a very sweet lady on SCS, but did you know that she hasn't been stamping for quite a while now due to some pretty major things going on in her life? There's a special RAK (Random Act of Kindness) Request, {POSTED HERE} by one of her close friends, but an opportunity that all of us stampers can help her with. This is my card for Maddy. I wanted it to be uplifting and happy. I urge you to check out the request and hopefully you will be able to send her one as well!! :)

Stamps: Jolies Fleurs, (Lizzy Anne Designs); Warm Words (SU!)
Cardstock: Barely Banana; Lovely Lilac; white; Pink Passion

Christmas Gifts

Mom and I are looking for some (inexpensive) homemade Christmas gifts to make for this year. She is a teacher's aid (has been for 21 yrs. now) at an Indian School on the reservation here and she has 6 teachers this year that she'll be working for, and would like to give each of them a little something. And I would like to make a few for my co-teachers at church. Here's a list of what we've done in the past:
  • Survival Kits - or Recipe boxes made from altered lunch tin
  • Lighted Beaded Glass Blocks with Christmasy pictures on them
  • Beaded/crocheted angels
  • Recipe-in-a-Jar
  • Altered Clipboards

Do any of you have some suggestions?? I think there might be a section on SCS for this type of thing but not sure how to find it. Any help would be much appreciated!! :)

Ok...I've gone to "search" part in the gallery (scs) and clicked on several of the "anything but a card" categories like "altered tins" and other containers, but it comes up with nothing. What am I doing wrong?? Do I have to also put in a search word up on the top part? Funny...I've been a member of SCS for years and can't figure this out! HELP! :)

My girls with my niece, Anna & her groom, Kellen. August 25, 2007

My girls with my nephew, Sam & his wife, Emily

My girls made little "hats" for the bunny's ears and
for the cats tails to celebrate the bunny's 1st birthday.
She got a huge apple piece for her "cake".

Birthday Banner

Here's Maddy putting hats on the cat's tails. If you look closely, you can see that the girls drew bunnies on the hats. That's my hubby in foreground and grandma & Carly in background.

FINALLY...a plant I haven't killed!! (yet!)
My daughter painted this pot at school, and brought me this plant
on Mother's Day, 1 1/2 yrs. ago and it's just now blooming for the first time!!
I thought it was a spider plant, and that those don't get blooms on them, but ???
what do I know?? Apparently nothing about plants! Lol. I'm just glad it's not dead.

Now I've never been big on the Halloween holiday, but I JUST HAD TO DO IT!! :) I've had this cute kitty face for a few days now, but didn't have it mounted yet. When I sat down to try the sketch challenge for today, I just couldn't come up with anything. So, I inked up this little fella and came up with this card.

I had my hubby cut a piece of wood for him, but I still don't have any rubber cement, so I layed the stamp on the block, inked him up and then layed my c.s. on top and rubbed it all over. I worked! For the time being anyway ;)

The celery c.s. is stamped with Linen bg and then cuttlebugged with the swirls folder. I used pumpkin c.s. and SU!'s retired holiday stencils and then I sponged pumpkin ink in various places. Drew in lines with markers. His paws are on pop dots for dimension. The scallop is made with the slit punch--I prefer that method to scallop scissors because I don't cut straight...but with the punch, you get it straight every time.

I JUST HAVE TO ADD: I saw SCSer, Mothermark's gallery that she has set aside just for this kitty--she calls him "Rocky", that I fell in love with--and I KNOW my MIL will absolutely treasure as she's such a cat collector--real ones AND ceramic! So, I got my inspiration from her gallery HERE. Check it out--tons of really creative and fun "Rocky" cards. THANKS!!

SO, you've prolly noticed that my blog is different--AGAIN! :) I just really like color. That brown was not setting well with me. I also realized that my previous blog colors (celery and apricot) pretty much went really well with my new Fall picture banner, so I went back to that...except I did make them a tad darker. What do ya think??
