Multi-Tiered Pop Up Penguins

Welcome friends!  I had a great time last night on a Zoom call with my SU! upline and 8 others in her downline group - so fun to "meet" them and put faces to names and craft together - for 3 hours!  :)  We all worked on our own projects and they were so diverse, love it!

For my zoom project, I created a multi-tiered pop up box card --- no surprise there, right guys?!  BUT, this one was on a much larger scale and needs a 6 1/8" square envelope, which I had to make myself, but with the help of my nifty envelope punch board, it was pretty easy... PRETTY being the operative word as I used some the same Whimsy & Wonder dsp from SU! as I used on my card!

I will include the measurements for making this card below my photos, so keep scrolling :)

The Whimsy & Wonder dsp has holographic striped paper that I used on the sides of my box.

These cute penguins and matching punch are bundled in the new Holiday Catalog, July - Dec. 2021, and so is the Whimsy & Wonder dsp!

And just LOOK at this paper - it's honestly prettier in real life.  All the grey parts are actually the holographic paper - super pretty!  I dreaded the thought of using this gorgeousness for my  envelope, but if I have to make one, I'd rather have it match my card, so...

MEASUREMENTS:

This particular pop up layered box card is larger than the ones I normally make.  I followed this tutorial by Sam Calcott on YT and I'll include the dimensions below.

Card base = Thick white cardstock cut at 8" x 6", and scored at 2" and 6"

   •  On the 2" flaps, measure up 2" from the bottom and place a pencil mark.  Now cut from the top inside scored corner down to the mark on outside edge using either scissors or your paper trimmer.

*NOTE:  My layers look very different from Sam's tutorial because I wanted more of the blue night sky showing on the back piece, so I started with the 3 7/8" piece in back and cut more off the others with my Stitched Snow Drifts dies as I worked my way to the front.  The measurements below are what they started out as (same as Sam's) before I cut die-cut them.

You'll want to start by decorating the card base first.  Then glue in your white inside layer so the edge of the flaps meet up with the scored lines of your base card.  The next white layer, the edges of your flap should meet the previous layer's scored flap.  (watch video for detailed instructions).

2nd from the back = 5" x 4 7/8" - scored at 1/2" and 4 1/2"

3rd from the back = 5" x 3 7/8" - scored at 1/2" and 4 1/2"

4th from the back = 5" x 2 7/8" - scored at 1/2" and 4 1/2"

Front piece = 5" x 2" - scored at 1/2" and 4 1/2"

If you add patterned paper to any or all layers, you'll cut them 1/4" smaller than the face of your layers, so the width of all your patterned papers would be 3 3/4" wide by _____ (1/4" shorter than however long your layers end up being).  If you followed Sam's measurements for the layers, than your patterned paper would be the following....

back dsp piece - 3 3/4" x 5 3/4"

2nd from back dsp = 3 3/4" x 4 5/8"

3rd from the back dsp = 3 3/4" x 3 5/8"

4th from the back dsp = 3 3/4" x 2 5/8"

Front piece dsp = 3 3/4" x 1 3/4"

Side pieces dsp (2) = 1 3/4" x 5 3/4" (mark up 2" along longest side.  Cut diagonally from mark up to opposite corner across longest portion of strip.)

Decorate with the cutest stamps and dies you have and Wha-La!  *happy dance*
