SSiC Isaiah 64:8 - You are the Potter…

KB-clayPitcher“Yet you, LORD, are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.”
Isaiah 64:8

When I was in High School I took a ceramics class.  I remember my first time sitting at the pottery wheel and how hard it was to learn the techniques to not only make the clay stick to the wheel w/out flying off, but to place your fingers in just the right spot to mold the clay into a cylinder as it spins ‘round and ‘round.  It’s an awesome feeling to finally bring up a nicely shaped cylinder… the foundation that can then be shaped and formed into whatever you imagine!  It’s very delicate though… one slight wrong move and the whole thing gets warped out of shape and you have to start over.  The pitcher on the left is my “masterpiece” … my final project for the class that now adorns my mom’s kitchen.  She wanted me to make her an old fashion pitcher and basin (although I didn’t get the basin made).  And while I’m far from being a “master potter,” I was pretty proud of this pitcher… molded and shaped on the wheel… hand-rolled handle, glazed and baked in the hot kiln.

So are we… like clay in The Potter’s hands.  When you are a child of God, you are His masterpiece!
Only God can take our sins and throw them as far as the east is from the west.  And when adversity comes, only God “The Potter” can take those imperfections… those things in our past we wish we could undo… the hurts and pain we’ve felt and delt… those things we’ve repented of but we can’t seem to forget and feel shamed of…  only He can work them all together for our good.  He molds them and melds them together to make us into a beautiful “masterpiece.”   Do you see those dark spots on my pitcher left from uneven disbursement of the glaze?  I know lots of crafters who love to sponge and distress to get “character” like that.  And if you think about it… the adversity we face in life adds character to us.  Maybe a “sign of approval” from the The Master Potter?  ☺

The challenge over at Stampin’ Sisters in Christ this week is hosted by my lovely “sister” Diane.  She is challenging us to use PUNCHES – DIES – OR SHAPES on our cards!
I’ve used 4 different dies (all Spellbinders) and the li’l colorful leaves in the bottom left are brads.  I’ve also used a couple of brand new releases from the new online store, Daydream Designs!  First up is the warm and colorful Fall digi paper pack….
Fall-Digi-Paper-Pack-Autumn

The digi stamp I used came from the colored version of the set Bushel and a Peck… perfect for quick and easy crafting…  4 lovely bushels of goodness for variety this Fall.

It also comes in outline versions for you to color

And last but not least… is the “Fall is in the Air Sentiment Set

Serendipity - Poppin' Pastels and Faux Snow

Are you ready for snow?  Sounds good right about now when it’s so hot outside.  There’s just something about snowmen that warms your heart, isn’t there?  And this cutie is no exception!  He’s adorable… watering his li’l tree so it will be the perfect size Christmas tree in just a few months!!  He’s a new rubber stamps from Serendipity Stamps called Snowman with Watering Can

I used the Poppin’ Pastels technique which means I stamped him in Versamark and then lightly colored on top using cotton swabs and chalk pastels!  That way you don’t have the black outline and can color manage your image a li’l better.  :)  Then I added some faux snow (by rubbing 2 styrofoam balls together to make the flakey fluffy “snow”) to both my image and along the bottom of my card.

I lost track of counting how many Christmas cards I’ve made this year --- although I’m sure it’s not very many!  I better get a move on it if I’m going to send out the majority of them handmade.  Why not check out what the other girls made with this set and the other new releases at the Serendipity Blog!  I’ll be back soon!

When You Write, Your Heart Just Follows.

Good morning all *Ü*  Today's Scripture challenge at Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenges is hosted by Candace who shares this verse:  "Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him."  Proverbs 30:5

It is wonderful blessing that God gave us a perfect book to guide us through every aspect of our lives.  Please hop over to read Candace’s devotional this week.

Our challenge this week is to Use a Sentiment Only - no images

Our sponsor is Our Daily Bread Designs who is offering one random player a $15 GC to the store!

I love this sentiment I’ve used… “When you write, your heart just follows”  ~ it reminds me of my two daughters as they’ve always loved writing.  In fact, their teachers would show us their writing assignments (in grade school) and say “I asked them to write 2 paragraphs and look… 8 paragraphs and 3 pages later… Lol.”   Carly also loves to write poems and Maddy writes song lyrics.  So… I decided to make them back to school notebooks!

I am assuming that we are allowed to use images if they are in your designer paper since our hostess used that, so I will give you a li’l sneak peek at some new School-themed papers coming to Daydream Designs this week!  The sentiment is from the School Days Sentiments and the papers are ones I created using some of the digi images in the School Supplies and School Backgrounds set.   The colored digi version of the School Supplies will also be available this week!

The apple is actually the new Pumpkin Die from Serendipity Stamps!  The felt leaves are perfect for apples… and I cut them with a Marianne Designs Die.  If you missed my post from this past Thursday, then you missed a couple of cards I made using this beautiful die to make 3D pumpkin and apple!  ☺

I hope you’ll pop over to SSiC and join us in this challenge – show us your sentiments!

Apples & Pumpkins - It's That Time of Year!

Hi all… poppin’ in to share some fun new things at Serendipity Stamps!!  What’s more yummy than all-American Apple Pie?!!  Or how about delicious pumpkin pie?  Fall is just around the corner, although you can’t feel it in the air quite yet!  (Ok, my mouth is watering now, is yours?)  Well this post isn’t really about PIE… it’s about a new DIE!!  Serendipity Stamps has come out with a couple new dies – this Pumpkin Die, which can easily be used as an apple as well, or how about a tomato for a garden party?  And since Christmas is not far off, they’ve come out with a gorgeous Ornament Die!!

Today I’m sharing 2 cards made using the Pumpkin Die to show it’s versatility!  I cut 3 out in red.  The bottom layer, I just cut off the curlicue, the next layer I cut off the whole stem, and the top layer, I cut off the stem and the outter edge.  I glued all 3 layers together just in the middle so I can fan them out and make it 3D!  Don’t worry—it folds nice and flat if you choose to mail it *Ü*  OR… how about sending this card to school with your child to start their year off with a note of appreciation?!!  Teachers are awesome aren’t they?!!

… and here it is as a pumpkin!  Being thankful isn’t just for Thanksgiving—you can use this all year round to show someone you are thankful.

Pumpkin Die

Look at the gorgeous detail.  This cut like a dream… even w/o wax paper!  But all dies might vary slightly so if you ever have problems with getting a clean cut (might be a warped B plate from your cuttlebug or other die cutting machine?) then just place wax paper between your die and cardstock, and you might want to try adding a piece of scrap cardstock on top of your plate as well for extra shim.  But mine worked beautifully and they are so fun to create with!  Hope I’ve inspired you today *Ü*  I’ll be back soon with a fabby project using this die!  See ya then!

Grand Opening of Daydream Designs

Hi everyone and a happy Monday to ya!  I'm back from a week at the Oregon Coast - ahhh!  Refreshing to get away from this 90-100 degree weather here in the high dessert to a cool 65-70 at the beach!  A week w/o internet was actually really nice but I was a bit sad that I missed the Grand Opening of Diane's store, Daydream Designs!!

Didja get in on the freebies this past weekend?  Didja, didja??  There was some fabby tutorials and card shares going on too.  We’d love to have you pop over this week and peruse the store!  There's so many wonderful digi sets available in a variety of categories from vintage kitchen to sweet baby to grungey masculine.  (and I do say grungey in the most awesomely artistic way! heehee) and more.

Take a look at this adorable Bitty Baby Girl set and digi papers to match!

This was my first “job” for Daydream Designs - digitally coloring this set up for those who like to have pre-colored versions, and I had so much fun creating some papers with the cute li'l bunnies and onsies.   Although ya can’t hardly call it a job when you love it as much as I do – Diane’s images are so Delightful to color!

Hope you'll hop over to the store and take a look around!!  You can follow on Facebook and at Diane’s Blog too!  Hope to see you there!  *Ü*

SSiC #151 – Sweet Baby Cards

Good morning friends!!  I know my card-making has been pretty sparse this summer, but I’m back with a card today … and for a very sweet new challenge at Stampin’ Sisters in Christ Challenges!

Our sponsor this week is Denami DesignsDeNami Blinkie

who is offering one random winner a $30 GC to their store!!  You could also be one of 3 selected Shining Stars to be featured on our blog. ☺

Our challenge hostess this week is Sandie who shares this verse:

...as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.  ~I Peter 2:2&3

“O Taste and see that the Lord is good.”  (Psalm 34:8)  and this one says “you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”  He certainly IS good and gracious and so much more!!  But how do we know that unless we know Him?  The more we dig in to His Word, the better we know Him & the more nourishment we receive so we can grow and mature spiritually.  How many times do we allow ourselves to get so busy or chose to put off reading the Bible to do something less important?  A baby doesn’t go a few days before he is hungry.  And we shouldn’t either.  These last couple of weeks I’ve really been longing for our beach vacation because my devotional time on the beach is like nothing else.  There’s something spiritual about being out in nature with the ocean… hearing the rolling waves… appreciating God’s creation… and just having all the time in the world to “drink the milk of His Word.”  But we are not promised tomorrow.  We (I)  should make the most of each and every day!!

Sandie’s Challenge for us this week:
Something "Baby" … OR All (only) pastels
I have a very exciting announcement about these digi stamps and paper that I’ve used on this card today.  A very dear sister in Christ, Diane is opening her new digi store later this week called … Daydream Designs, LLC!! Also, she’s asked me to be her “Digital Colorist & Paper Illustrator” and  I’m totally over-the-moon & feel so blessed to be able to use my talents/skills in this area to help her & her new business ☺  I’ve seen quite a few of her sets so far and am in love – I know you will be too!  You won’t want to miss the Grand Opening this Friday, 8/10  as there will be some freebies, tutorials, card samples and more!!  A great way to stay in the know on her new store is to follow her blog, Diane’s Designs.

For my card I’ve used the pre-colored Mama & Baby trio from the “Nest to Sky” set and layered them onto this cloud paper I made yesterday (which will be available in a paper combo pack soon!)  The sentiment is from a separate set called “Hope Soars Sentiments” which coordinates with another super cute set!  Hope you’ll mark your calendars and plan to attend the Grand Opening on
August 10th!

Now it’s time to hop on over to our challenge blog and read a wonderful devotional by Sandie,
if you haven’t been there yet and see the beautiful creations by the DT!  :)
