La-La Weekly Wednesday Challenge

Howdy Pardners! It's time for another fun challenge at La-La Land Crafts today! But first, I'd like to introduce you to none other than... COWGIRL LALA! See how versatile these cute stamps can be? I used Sitting LaLa and drew some boots and a hat to make her into a cowgirl!

Scroll down a little bit to see her upclose and to give your eyes a bit of a break! LOL - I realize this is a TON of green, but my li'l cowgirl loves lime green so this page for her.

Our challenge hostess this week is Maureen Wong and she'd like us to alter a store-boughten embellishment! There's examples over on our DT Blog if you're as stumped as I was, LOL! But I decided to take my natural hemp twine and make it into a flower (using glue dots along the way to secure the loops on back). My page kinda reminds me of a kids hide-n-seek puzzle... find the flower!! LOL.

For her hat I traced the "tiara" with clear stickles, but for some reason it's picking up all the surrounding color and making it look green. For the glitter trim, I actually did use light green stickles. Looks much better in real life ;^)

We'd love to see how YOU alter an embellishment! You have until Monday night to enter. Remember, you have to use stamps or digis from La-La Land Crafts to be eligible to WIN a $10 Store Credit or a TOP 3 award blinky for your blog!

The Sale-of-the-week item is... Birthday Cake Maya!! She'll be 20% OFF until next Tuesday.

Don't forget... there's lots of stamps from our first release currently 40% OFF right now through the end of April!! Come-n-Get-Em!! *Ü*

Today's challenge at Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenges is to create a Mother's Day card. Our sponsor is SoftPencil with a $15 GC!

She named this one "Feminine Perfection"... it's exactly what I hoped for and perfect timing for Mother's Day *Ü* Thank You so much Sue!!

Today's challenge hostess is Randi Barrett---very wonderful gal!! Hop on over to the challenge blog to read about her scripture and challenge for today!

KLSNS27 - {Natural} Color Challenge

What's brunette and freckled and cute all over?? Why it's Birgitta on a Tree Stump of course! *Ü*

Hi there! I'm so glad it's Saturday!! I get to do something fun today... something very girly! My church is hosting a ladies tea party this afternoon where we will enjoy a fashion show (put on by a local Girl Scout Troop), my girls & a friend are singing a couple songs on a catwalk stage, and I've been asked to judge the decorated tables! I sooo need this day to relax and go do something fun with my girls as it's been a very stressful week. :(

So, onto today's card!!

We have been celebrating Earth Day all month long at KL Stampin N Scrappin, and this week we have a color challenge, hosted by Joanna: Naturals, greens, browns. Challenge will end midnight on Friday night. OOOH, and since this is the LAST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH... THERE'S A PRIZE!!! Hop over to the KLSNS blog to see what it is!!

The stamp I used is called Birgitta on a Tree Stump. I used Sketch Saturday #99. This is my last challenge as a DT member at KLSNS. After 16 wonderful months there, I'm really gonna miss Kelly and the wonderful KLSNS Girls! (although I know where to find y'all so I'll be popping in on your blogs.) But I am needing to wind down some of my Design Teams for summer--to spend more time with my girls and just take a breather from so many commitments. Kelly will be adding 3 more DT members though and you can see this post to read who they will be!!

Speaking of "Nature" there's a new li'l colt in town! LOL. Actually right next door! This cute li'l colt was born yesterday morning and as soon as we heard, my girls were bolting over there to touch and look ☺ Of course I had to grab the camera!! We think he'll be called "Freckle" because he has one little freckle on his face. It's a good thing I'm not named for MY freckles... that'd be scary!! LOL -- Quit That! I know you went up to look at my profile picture just now ;o)

And here's one with his mama.

This last picture is of some deer that I took on Thursday - there were about 5 of them on our property, grazing right next to the dog pen. One of them was limping :( Love having them around... except the eating the garden part! ☺

Anyway, come on over and enter the challenge and see what the rest of the KLSNS Girls made!

Equestrian Fun and An Update on Cathy

My girls 4-H class was invited to an equestrian show and training session this last Sunday. Just thought I'd share some pics with you today. Scroll down for an update on Miss Cathy.

As some of you know from my Card Drive post, my daughter's Kindergarten teacher (from a few years ago) was recently in a terrible car crash, see this post here. I am very happy to say that she's doing remarkably well and that they've moved her into a room of her own!! Praise God. They have her eating some solids and sitting up on the side of her bed. Her family has been reading her messages from her friends and supportive community members and they bring smiles to her face.

Thank you so much to those who've sent me cards to take to her already. I am sure that she will even appreciate cards weeks and months from now as she recovers.

Thank you, Thank you!! You are an amazing and caring group of stampers. Many blessings to you!!

SSCC35 - Use Flowers On Your Card/Project

Good Morning! I'd like to invite you to join us for a new challenge this week over at Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenges where the lovely "Southern Belle" Candace Mitchell is hostess! She chose this verse to share:

Isaiah 40:8, "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever."

Her challenge for us is to use flowers on your card/project--Easy peasy!   Also, she has shared a little devotional on the SSCC blog, so I encourage you to hop over there to read it.

I used a cute flower set from Layers of Color called Polka Dot Love for the 2 types of flowers here. This set comes with lots of flowers and centers and leaves to mix n match! The sentiment was a free digi from Express Yourself.

The pink intricate squares are the middle die from the Pendant Nestabilities. I saw this idea on Yvonne's blog here. She does amazing things with Spellbinders Nesties--I get so much inspiration from her lovely work.

We'd love to have you join our challenge this week! Our sponsor is The Art of Michelle Perkett who is donating a $15 GC to her Etsy digi store!! If you upload to online galleries, please use the keyword SSCC35.

If I Had a Single Flower...

for every time I think about you, I could walk forever in my garden. ~Claudia Ghandi

Isn't this a pretty potted plant? This is a new digi image by Sue at McMahon Five Designs! I believe Sue was naturally gifted to draw, especially flowers! Have you seen all the different flower digis in her shop? Gorgeous! Although I usually take a peek at her samples to see how to color them in because I'm clueless about what types of flowers are what colors, LOL. But anyway... I printed this on watercolor paper and then added white gel pen for highlights and dark brown & green markers for streaks in the wood and veins in the leaves.
Such a sweet sentiment too. The sentiment is actually part of the digi!
The green velvet flower is from Taylored Expressions and I thought it resembled one of the leaves in my picture pretty closely! The paper I used is Green at Heart from KL Stampin N' Scrappin. Enjoy your Friday and I hope to see you back here tomorrow with another card!

Card Drive for a Wonderful Teacher

*EDITED TO ADD: If you'd like to read my post updates on Cathy, please click HERE.

Two days ago we learned that my daughter's Kindergarten teacher, Cathy Downing was in a bad car crash recently. By the looks of the car, it's a miracle she came out of it alive, but she did, thank God! Angels were definately with her that day and shows that God must not be done with her yet! *Ü*

I found this picture of her with Fireman Bob from when she taught my daughter's class a few years ago. "Miss Cathy" is such an awesome teacher, and just a wonderful, loving and happy person!!

I would love to hold a Card Drive for her--to help cheer her up when she gets a little further along in recovery. I know that there are so many caring stampers out there who's beautifully hand-made card can bless someone's life in such a positive way and so I'm giving you that opportunity!

If you'd like to send Cathy a card, please email me, Kristine, to get my address. I will leave it open for the next few weeks. I will be pasing them on to Miss Cathy. Thank You so much!!

Here is a picture of her car after they got her out.
This was on the front page of our newspaper yesterday.

Here's one more picture I found when my daughter's class went on a field trip.

Sending lots of love and Get well Wishes!

SSCC34 - Prayer and Peace

Today is the day the Lord has made, let us Rejoice and be glad in it! It's time for another Scripture challenge at Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenges and my wonderful friend Lisa Hjulberg is hosting!

The scripture she chose to share is:

Philippians 4:4-7 "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, wihch transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

I love this set of verses.... who wouldn't? God's peace... a peace that no one else can give... is ours when we trust Him with all our needs/requests.

This week's Challenge is create a card/project about prayer or peace.

My card today used 3 sets from Layers of Color: Fruitful Harvest, Backyard Birds, Her Majesty's Urns, in which I stamped them all in VersaMark and chalked the color on. I love this look so much as opposed to my first try in which I stamped them in black. The sponging around the edge goes nicely with the soft look of the chalked images. This card went to my friend (and LOC boss) Laura for her 50th Birthday, so it had to be special. I hope I achieved that? The verse is about prayer: "I thank my God upon every remembrance of You." Philippians 1:3.
Here are some close-ups.

Our sponsor this week is Simon Says Stamp (our monthly sponsor!) who is donating this cute stamp set:
I hope you'll come on over and see the fabulous creations by our Design Team and enter to win these cute stamps!! Perfect for Mother's Day coming up *Ü*

Tutorial for 4-Drawer Easel Card

Well I am not a pro at making tutorials, that's for sure! But every Wednesday at KLSNS the DT hosts "Stampin N' Scrappin With..." and today it's with me, so here goes!!

I'm going to walk you through how to make one of these easel 4-Drawer cards without having to use a Sizzix template. Easy peasy... anyone can do this!

First, we will start by making the drawers. I used lightweight designer paper here, but in my first one I used SU! cardstock. The c.s. is obviously more sturdy, however is harder to fold.

You will start with Four (6") squares.

You want to fold it in half, then open it up and fold it in half the opposite way so it looks like this.

Next, you fold all 4 corners up to the center point and leave them folded.

With the corners folded in, take the bottom edge and fold it up to the center like this:

Unfold that one and fold the next edge up to the center.
Repeat on all sides. It should look like this now:

Open up the top and bottom sections but leave the 2 sides folded in like this:

Next, fold the 2 sides up on the fold line like this:

Then, if you creased all your folds really well, you will be able to press your pointer fingers in like this and have that top corner pop up like this:

(pardon the bad manicure job---those are my 11 yr. old's hands! LOL)
Then you'll fold that top Corner over the pieces that your pointer fingers were pressing in and press it down on the inside like this:

Do the same with the other side and you will end up with this cute li'l origami box.
No need to tape the flaps down, unless they are sticking up.

I cut a piece about 2 and 1/16" for the inside bottoms of the drawers.

NEXT comes the wrappers for the drawers. These will hold the drawers in place and will be taped down onto a base. I cut mine out of cardstock for stability.

In case you can't read the measurements on the picture,
I cut my wrappers 7 3/4" long by 2 1/8" wide.
Then scored it at 7/8", 3 1/8", 4 1/4", and 6 1/2"
Making sure the shorter end is on the outside, add some tape to the edge and seal it.
Your box should slide right in!
Next, you'll want to cut your base from cardstock (or heavier) to match, at 5" Square. You will want to arrange your boxes so that each drawer is facing a different side. Also, making sure that the wrapper that has the seam is facing another wrapper and not an outside edge. We don't want the seam to show. When you get them arranged, tape them down to the 5" square.

Oh ya... I forgot the part about adding KNOBS to your drawers! You can use anything that sticks out and you can grab onto. Here, I used some gold thingies that are flat on one side. I attached with a pop dot so I can get my finger under it a li'l bit and have something to grab onto. I've also seen pipe cleaners that formed a loop and then stuck into the drawer through a hole and flattened out on the other side.
OK... Now for the easel part. It's super easy!
Just make a 5" square card, and then score the top in half again at 2.5" -
Then you will attach your separate 5" piece that you decorated like this:

Then you will tape the bottom of your card to the top layers of the drawer wrappers and... Wha-La!!

Sorry that was incredibly long! But thorough I think.
Hope you have FUN with this--they are super cute and fun to make.
