Another Dahlia Fold

I had so much fun making my first Dahlia fold card, so I tried one in another combo. This paper came from Creative Memories, and the saying is from SU!'s set, "Delight in Life."

If you'd like to see the challenge with instructions, please see HERE.

SS Hits Again!!

I got my 4th card/package from my secret sis today. She's such an amazing stamper. I was soo excited to get this large card in the mail--it's SOOO CUTE!! :) I just love the theme of this...in fact, my girls had yeterday off school because it snowed so much and we all enjoyed a good snowball fight, so this came at the perfect time!! :) Unfortunately they thought the dog loved getting a "snow bath" --poor thing! SNOW MUCH FUN!! heehee.
She also included a couple of clear stamps inside. Thank You Sooooo Much!

Dahlia Fold

Today's TLC (technique lovers challenge) was to create this Dahlia Fold flower on a card. Some had very interesting interpretations--some very gorgeous, so make sure and check out the fab gallery over at SCS!!

IMO... the outcome of your flower will largely depend on the double-sided paper that you use. I used single-sided paper and didn't like the stark white back, so I sponged on Old Olive to make it look like leaves. (?) Then I taped my dp down to Magenta c.s. (remember that color?? Retired SU!, but I have a whole pack of it left) and then I sewed all around the edges with zigzag and straight stitches. No stamping on this. I also had these olive and purpley pink rhinestone brads that went perfect with the colors in the dp. :)

I love learning new folds and techniques, so I'm SO ONTO THIS--join us each Monday at SCS. Just see the Monday link in my right column!!

Thomas Kinkade Comparison:

Here are my 2 card comparisons. Same stamp, same inks, same techniques, different paper! You can click on them to enlarge and see more detail:

In yesterday's post, I showed you my first Thomas Kinkade watercolored card. I did that one using the watercolor paper. I WISH I would've taken photos to show you the difference in black/white b4 adding color. On both cards, I used Black Stazon, but the first was on SU!'s watercolor paper, and the 2nd on Ultrasmooth Whisper White c.s.

Well, I decided to go ahead and watercolor on the ultrasmooth and YES, it did seep through and make my paper wavy, so I taped it really well on the back and mounted it to c.s. and it was fine. (actually would work better prolly if you mounted it to colored c.s. and then watercolored it.)

ANYWAY, here's my 2nd card, stamped and colored the same way, (except for the pathway, I used the smaller end of the marker and used Celery instead of Garden Green) but on smoother cardstock. You'll see much more definition--in fact, you can see the Thomas Kinkade signature in the bottom right hand side (I circled it for ya!)

My First Watercolored TK!!

WOOHOO, I DID IT!! :) So be nice and don't pick out all those flaws--cause it WAS my first try at watercoloring my new Thomas Kinkade stamp today, and I'll tell ya, it took me most of the afternoon to do! Well, between playing in the snow and taking pictures of the kids! :)

Anyway, a HUGE thank you to all your comments and answers to my previous questions. Keri emailed me this great link Cornish Heritage Farms Forum and I decided that maybe my black Stazon ink would work afterall. I tried it both on SU!'s watercolor paper and on Whisper White Smooth paper and I have to admit that it was much clearer on the smooth white c.s. I decided to go ahead and try the watercolor paper even though some of the images were incredibly faint or gone altogether, because I know from experience that watercoloring on whisper white makes the water soak in and tear the paper. :(

Maybe I need to look for a smoother surface of watercolor paper? Anyway, after stampin with Stazon, I just watercolored it, and sometimes I used my SU! markers to get the darkness and then went over it to blend with my Aqua Painter. On the pathway, I used grey for most of it...yellow for the light reflection, then after that dried, I went over it again with just water and then took my garden green marker and traced the lines in the pathway and because it was wet, the ink spread out making it look like moss growing up through the cracks! Next time I will use the small end of the marker instead of the painty end--duh! :) The only thing really that I'm unhappy with is that the green in the pathway is so much darker than the actual grass. But I better leave well enough alone!!

What do ya think? :)

CARDSTOCK: Not Quite Navy; Bravo Burgundy; Soft Sky

P.S.
I posted a few pictures of our fun snow day today HERE if you'd like to take a looksy!!

I Need HELP wih Thomas Kinkade Stamps!

I purchased some Thomas Kinkade stamps for my mom and myself and have no idea where to find tutorials on how to use these. I know some are using Pallet Noire ink (?) some Versafine inks. What are these and how do they make it easy to color. All I have is black Stazon and clear Versamark and neither work for this kind of stamp. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE A VIDEO TUTORIAL ON THOMAS KINKADE STAMPS?? I'd sure love the link. Or even if someone can email me and explain what they use and how it works, I'd really really appreciate it!! THANKS GALS!!

I'll Be Your Umbrella

I really loved the color combo that Taylor used the other day; Celery, Pomegranate, and Saffron; so I used them to create a sunny card to hopefully lift the spirits of a friend who's having a rough time. I really like this stamp from the "Send A Celebration" set.
I really need to find out what my secret sis uses to color her images with, because I really need help in that area. I watercolored this on wc paper. The umbrella I had to go over with a celery marker because my red bled out from the flowers. I like how it turned out anyhow. I added 2-way glue on the rain and applied Dazzling Diamonds. That's my only form of glitter. The circle saying is from the set "Riveting."
On a personal note:
My girls had their school Spelling Bee today. My DD, Carly (3rd grade) won for the whole 1st-3rd grades and gets to go to Regionals!! :o)
Too Happy 1 Raise The Roof Sunshine Dizzy
They also picked one person from 4th-5th grades and she will be going also. They are the only 2 that get to go. Since I'm pretty sure that no one from here that has kids in her school reads my blog, I don't mind bragging so much, Lol!!

A Hedgie Hello!

Secret Sis Mail #3...
Awwww.... This is just too Ca-UTE!!! :) I LOVE hedgies and when I opened this card from my secret sis today I got warm fuzzies--and totally lots of smiles. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! :) I also have to say that who ever you are, you are just the best at coloring!! I really want to know what in the world you used to color this with--mineral spirits?? It's absolutely GORGEOUS!!
And, you can't see it well enough in this photo, but the ladybugs and all the flowers are popped up on dimensionals!! And the bugs have crystal effects on them, and the flowers have yellow glitter in centers. There so much details in the little things--just TOO STINKIN' CUTE!! :) THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!

Here's a pic of the sweet flowers stickers she sent me too!! Thanks for making my day. This is soo much fun. Can't wait to meet you!

Say HUH?!

:) Ok girls...I know my camera is not the best, and my pictures don't always turn out the greatest--that's why I sometimes go through the hassle of carrying my cardstock file box out to the front porch, set up my white cardstock (one on top, one on bottom) place my card, turn on my camera, oops-the wind knocked my card over, set it back up, step back, start to click, lose my balance, yada yada yada--you get the picture! Well, I came across SpazzGirl's post about setting your camera's white balance for indoor pictures! I downloaded my user manual (cause Lord knows where it is in this messy craft room!) and skimmed and skimmed until I found the part about white balance. Went through the motions and took pictures with all the settings. Then went back to Daily Dose of Spazz and read the part about setting my lens to manual. OOPS! Roadblock. Guess my camera's too cheap to have a manual lens--only automatic. BUT, I went ahead and uploaded my pics just to realize after all that--the "auto" white balance that my camera is set to is just about as good as it gets on this thing. SOO...didn't want this whole time to go completely to waste--so I'll show you how they came out. :) If you'd like to know what the bajeebers I'm talking about, go visit THIS POST at Daily Dose of Spazz. Night!

A Little *TLC*

No school meant no work for me today--YEAH!! (Doesn't always!!) So, I got to play the Technique Lovers Challenge, and so did my DD (age 7). I made this one for a friend's daughter's birthday since it's so close to Valentine's Day I opted for pinks and hearts. (I will replace the suckers with heart shaped ones after I get a chance to go to the store and buy them!--these were all I could find around the house!!) ;o)

I had to alter the measurements because I started out with this cute bunny from the SU! set called "A New Little Someone" but then as I graduated layers it got too big, so I made a pocket card out of a regular sized card... 4.25"x 5.5"...it works! :o)

Colors are Purely Pomegranate and Pretty in Pink. I watercolored bunny on wc paper, cut him out and applied large pop dots to make him really stand out from the card. I used Karen Foster Snap Stamps to make the saying and put those on smaller pop dots. Crystal Rhinestones are attached with Crystal Effects. Oh, and as you prolly know...the background is cuttlebugged with the Divine Swirls folder and sponged over with the Pomegranate ink.

NOW...here's the card my daughter made this morning--before I could even make mine!!
She came up with the stamp, colors and even those white swirls on the scallops all by herself!! I'm so proud of her. It was wierd that everything matched because we started by googling toucans to see what colors they are and I didn't have green galore c.s. or orange, so we went with yellow. Then we found this polka dot ribbon (from my AWESOME Secret Sis!) that had the colors in it. And finally at the end, we looked for candy to put in it and wouldja look at that?!!! They match perfectly!! :) She's one very happy 7 yr. older camper!! :)

Diamonds ARE a Girl's Best Friend...

Especially on Valentine's Day!! Engagement Ring haha. I finally got to flip through the new SU! catalog online (don't have a hard copy *waaa* ) and I saw this cute card (page 139 of the new Spring Summer '08 catty) made with the "All in the Family" set. I also used my new Paper Salon paper I received from my Secret Sis!! (thanks again!!)

**SCRAP-sa-Daisy**

Heehee...couldn't resist that title. I still had a few more little scraps of ladybugs, so I made this "window" and "curtain"--did you guess that before you read this?? :) I put big pop dots behind the top valance to make it stand out like a curtain would. I think it's cute. Again, I used the Glitter Mat Stack called "Nana's Kids." You can click the pic to see more details (*like the gliter*)

SU! Colors: Pixie Pink, Whisper White / the rest is from the Mat Stack, and the green is a toss up between Gable Green and Celery? Guess I will put a saying on the inside on this one. Wonder if this would count for the Glitter Challenge on VSN tonight?? *shhh, I didn't actually put any glitter on it--it's already in the paper!* lol. Have a SPARKLING weekend!!

Hey There, Little Lady!

I wish I could've been playing VSN08 today, but the house needed cleaning and our dryer broke!! SO, had to hang up a clothesline out back and hang them up. How long do you think it should take to dry when it's only 38 degrees outside? Hmmm.... :)

SO... I did clean up my stamp desk and these pieces of leftover scrap paper were just too cute to throw away, so--I found SC99 to use them up. I LOVE how this turned out. Had to go outside though to take a picture. You prolly can't see that all those stars have glitter and it's really sparkly up close. (click it to enlarge photo.)

P.S. Tomorrow is the last day to upload your cards for my Valentine's Challenge!!

Prayer Journals #2

Here are 3 more prayer journals I made for my "Treasure Seekers for Kids" class at church. I decided not to put "prayer journals" on these because I know that some already have those and might want to use these for something else. You can click the pictures to make them larger and see the details.
I used my Microsoft Word Art to create the circular words that say 'Jesus Loves Me' and then printed it onto white cardstock. Then I used my Giga Scallop Circle Punch --centered the words in the middle and punched it out. I drew the hearts in with my pixie pink marker. Oh ya--their names are printed on computer too. The paper is from my Glitter Mat Stacks--LOVE THAT! I don't have to add any stickles, it's already in the paper! :o)

OH YA....and a HUGE thanks (once again) to my Secret Sis for the awesome polka-dotted ribbon. I used a little on these but not too much cause I really wanted to use it on my cards!

Prayer Journals

Happy Tuesday! I wanted to show you these prayer journals that I made yesterday. I still have a couple more to make for tomorrow--they are for my Wed. night "Treasure Seekers" group at church. I bought a few notebooks that are 7"x 5" and I decorated the fronts and added ribbons. I thought about adding an initial on the bottom right side, but couldn't figure exactly which one should go to whom, so I'll just let them choose.

I'll show you the others--as soon as I get them done! So much to do, so little time.

CiaĆ³ for now!
