Feedblitz or Google Reader??

I came across the Google Reader that I heard from several bloggers out there and I signed up about a week ago. I'm LOVING it!! It allows you to enter people's blog addresses and it will tell you immediately when someone makes a new post. It's all in one place, and I just put the link to that in an email to myself and keep it in my "inbox" so I can click on it anytime.
However...some people are offering blog candy to those who subscribe to their blog using the Feedblitz or Feedburner, or at least they get an extra entry for doing so. I'm just wondering what the motive for that is?? Is it so you can keep track of who's subscribing to you?? Does it really matter that much to see an actual number, whereas if someone has you in their Google Reader, you wouldn't know it unless they leave a comment??
I'm not knocking it...I'm just curious! Speaking of comments, I kinda assumed that I had just a few readers out there, based on comments left or emails that I've recieved (an average of what? about 2-5 comments--and BTW, THANKS to those commentors out there--love hearing from you guys!!) But looking at my Feedblitz subscriptions, I currently have 89 subscribers!! Some of whom I've never seen or heard from. Does it take Blog Candy that everyone's doing to get people to leave comments?? (Am I that desperate for stamper's interaction??--Maybe)
Just wondering, should I offer blog candy, and if so, how many of you would comment to get it? Hmmmm....that's a good one. :o) heehee. Maybe I'll let this post decide for me. (I know, I'm sneeky) *hint, hint* :o)

I'm a big fan of the google reader, it doesn't fill up my in box and I get the new posts. The bad thing, like you said, is that I don't usually click on over to leave comments. I do think you'd get lots of comments with blog candy, but is that something that interests you to do. It's really up to you.

I do the feedblitz and feedburner, but I also am slowly adding them to google as way too many offer nothing but Atom and I could not get that to work at all. I dont post everyday to mine or to others unless I need to say something but I do read over 150 blogs a day. I have worn the keys off on my keyboard!

I use google reader and love it as I know when someone has updated. I haven't checked out the other subscription services. I am guilty of not leaving feedback as I do have to click over to the actual blog to do that but I do read you every day. As for blog candy, Yes, it would increase your comments but not sure about increasing your views unless you ask for a referral from each commenter. Thanks for asking.

I LOVE Google Reader! You are in my Google Reader, and I usually always click over to a person's site to leave a comment. Yeah, I don't know the subscribing vs. Google Reader thing. For me, it's just easier to do Reader. I do find that regardless of who's subscribed or who visits through Reader, etc, the people who comment are usually the same with a few random ones here and there. As far as the blog candy. . .I've done that twice. For the first one, I guess I felt like "everyone else is doing it, so maybe I should", but for the second, I did it as my way to thank people who do visit regularly. Yes, I guess there are "blog candy hoppers". If I come across a blog that I've never visited and they're offering blog candy, I don't usually comment because I feel like I haven't visited enough to deserve blog candy. :)

hi Kristine - Google Reader is so great because it delivers more timely updates than Feedblitz. i actually have a lot of blogs on both; it just depends on "what i'm in the mood for" i guess. but on a lot of Feedblitz posts the messages are truncated so i have to go to the actual blog site anyway to view the posting or the pictures. Actually Google Reader does the same - i'm not smart enough to figure it all out myself but i'm sure there's a reason for the truncating.

anyway - re: commenting - i guess i would suppose that BLog Candy definitely brings out the comments. But if i see something that catches my eye, or a question or particular topic, i'll comment. or sometimes if i have the time, i'll just post a comment simply to say "hi - I like your card"....

anyway - hope you get lots of comments today! :-)

have a great day -
Beth (mommy to a busy 3 1/2 year old)

I leave comments when I see I card that I really love or when I read a post that is very thought provoking, not just for candy. I love my google reader too and it is a little discouraging that people that I have on my list don't know and I don't want them to think I only go to their blogs when they offer candy. I don't comment on all my blogs everyday. That would be crazy. I think you hit the nail on the head though, people like to see who is subscribed and I'm sure that they want to give better chances to their "regulars" rather than to those who just drop by for treats. Good thoughts today. Have a good day and welcome to google! Add me to yours if you want to! I'd be honored!

good points you bring up. I LOVE Google Reader! I have over 100 blog subscriptions there & it keeps it neat & all in one place. I forgot all the other points. Oh yea - when I feel like commenting, I don't have a problem linking to the post. What I love about Google Reader is how you can Star something to refer back to later, it SAVES it for you so you take the guesswork out of who did that cute card I'd like to try someday? As far as candy goes - I plan to do one SOON, I just haven't taken the picture & posted it yet (big slacker). As far as the feedblitz & other goes...not sure what the point is. I'd rather not clog up my email account & look at my leisure the blogs that have been updated. I know I went on & on - HTH!

Blog candy definitely helps if you are looking for comments, I think, otherwise, speaking for myself, I am looking for the inspiration and tend to "lurk". You do wonderful work and I can't wait to see your next project!
